Basilica and Expiatory Church of the Holy Family

Hello English classmates. Today I’m going to write about a building that I like. I'm a big fan of the artistic work of Antoni Gaudi, not only of his drawings and artworks but also its architecture. When I was at school I wanted to study architecture to design work as he designed. My favorite building is the Basilica and Expiatory Church of the Holy Family, or more commonly known as the Sagrada Famila. The Sagrada Familia is a large roman catholic church in Barcelona, Spain and it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Sagrada Familia was begun in 1882 and is not yet finished. Antoni Gaudí took over the project in 1883 and completely changing it. From general sketches of the building, Gaudí improvised the construction as he went along, he took over the project until his death in 1926. The Sagrada Familia does not blend at all with the surrounding architecture because it has an enormous dimension which makes it a stunning building for passersby, but I must say that it is the only building of Gaudí in Barcelona. I discovered the Sagrada Familia when I was in college and I had to make a presentation in class about this building, I hope someday I can travel to Barcelona and visit the Sagrada Familia.

The Creation of Adam

Hello everyone, I’m going to write about a piece of art I like. I'm a big fan of art, I think it's one of the most wonderful expressions of the human being. Unfortunately I have not had a chance to see live and direct the work I most admire, but I hope that one day I being able to travel to visit it. The piece of art that I like is called The Creation of Adam, it is a the most famous section of Michelangelo’s fresco Sistine Chapel ceiling, It was painting about 1511 b.c. – 1512 b.c. and this piece of art represent the Biblical creation narrative from the Book of Genesis in which God breathes life into Adam. I saw this for the first time in a picture that my uncle Guillermo had in his house. After the death of my uncle Guillermo my grandmother gave to me this picture, so this piece of art means a lot to me. The picture that I have is an approach to the hands of God and Adam. I think the Sistine Chapel speaks for itself and does not needs a big explanation as to its greatness is concerned, is the most amazing piece of art on the planet.

Centurions

Hi everyone! the TV show I’m going to write about is called “The Centurions”. For me it is very hard to pick my favorite TV series because until today I entertain a lot watching cartoons such as Saint Seiya, Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry, The Pink Panther and many others that I can’t remember right now.  I chose "Centurions" because I remember that I did not miss any chapter, I entertained a lot watching them and playing with my Lego blocks. Another reason why I want to tell you about "Centurions" is that do not know any person who has seen or heard of them. The Centurions is about the battles of Max Ray, Jack Rockwell and against Doc Terror Ace McCloud and his assistant Hacker. Doc Terror wants to conquer the earth, so the Centurions must stop at any cost. Each member of the Centurions has a special suit that allows the placement of armor. Max is the Sea Operations Commander, Jack is the Land Operation and Ace is the Air Operations Expert. The Centurions are based on a space station called Sky Vault where Crystal Kane uses a transporter to send the Centurions and the requested weapon systems to where they are needed. The Centurions also have a hidden base in New York City called Centrum. Unfortunately The Centurions only have 65 chapters, but on the other hand is a call for them to see the show and spend a very nice time. I hope that after reading this post you guys can see some chapters.
I leave the TV show intro.

Ken Robinson: Do schools kill creativity?

Hello everyone, today I’m going to write a comment about TED’s conference “Ken Robinson: Do schools kill creativity?”. First of all the title of the conference is a question that I want to reply. For me the school was a very difficult period because I always was a very restless kid from very young, so I frequently had troubles in the school. My mom thinks the reason was that I had a lot of energy and I was not be able to guide it in the best way, she also thinks that maybe it would have been beneficial to me that I had taken some medication to calm my energies, but she thinks it would have been a big mistake.  I think in cases like the one I had to live, the format of the school does not benefit the potential of children, but rather harms channeling the energies of children to other fields like making mess. The children are born with the ability to fantasize, to invent different things and what the school does is "destroy" these capabilities. Schools do not take into account these factors that may be more qualitative than quantitative because there is no willingness to enhance features, which in my opinion, are regarded in less.

Da Noi Trattoria Ristorante

Hello everyone, today I’m going to talk about a place I like to go to eat. First of all I love going out to eat with my family, girlfriend or friends as well as cooking at home. My favorite food is Italian food I love gnocchi, lasagna, cannelloni, fettuccine, the different rooms to go with pasta, etc. To eat the best Italian food in Santiago and at a very good price I recommend "Da Noi Trattoria Ristorante", this restaurant is located at Av Italia 1791, commune of Ñuñoa. This restaurant has a friendly family atmosphere, people can go as a couple, with children or just with friends, it is nice for everyone. It has a varied menu where you can find salads, meats and desserts, without mentioning its extensive variety of homemade pasta that are prepared at the site. You also have the possibility of buying food to go and from Monday to Friday at lunchtime they prepare collations. If you have the opportunity to eat at Da Noi I suggest you try the "Trietto Da Noi". This dish is composed of a bolognese lasagna, ravioli stuffed with ricotta with provencal sauce and fettuccine with alfredo sauce. this place is very popular so if you want to go is good to make a reservation.

Alex Trochut

Hello everyone, today I’m going to write about a famous person that I would like to meet, he is Alex Trochut. He is a Catalan graphic designer of our time, he has worked for very important brands like Nike, Adidas, Estrella Damm, Absolut Vodka and many others. He varies the working methodology in each of their projects. Alex Trochut knows how combine the knowledge that he received in the design school Elisava with his own techniques that has managed to develop with a very own personal style. His works are based on the illustration and typography, but in an interview he said that he was not a typographer. The taste for typefaces comes from his grandfather Joan Trochut, he was a typographer. For my, Alex Trochut is a constant inspiration, his designs are vibrant, full of very spectacular shapes and colors, he is my favorite designer. We also share some influences like Herb Lubalin or Milton Glaser. I think it would be great to share a cup of coffee and talk about our influences in graphic design, the methodology that has Alex Trochut when faced with a new project, it would be an honor for me to work in a collaborative project and to have the opportunity to learn from him.
Next I leave some of his brilliant work.

The Tate Modern Art Gallery

Hello English classmates today I'm going to write about a place I learned doing the London Webquest. I chose The Tate Modern Art Gallery, its address is Bankside, London SE1 9TG, United Kingdom and to get to the Tate Modern in the fastest way is to use the London Underground. The nearest station is Southwark on the Jubilee Line, is approximately 600 meters from the Tate Modern. The entrance is free for all visitors except some special exhibitions, at the Tate Modern you can do many different things such as play games, watch films and read about art in their interactive areas, or sketch in the gallery. You can also take three types of tours, these are a special tour for two, a private tour for a group or free daily guided tour. Besides you can visit exhibitions, see films, go to conferences and talks. I think if you have the opportunity to visit London you can’t miss the chance to visit one of the most incredible museums in the world.

BBC Learning English

Hello everyone, today I’m going to write about the web site “BBC Learning English”, first of all I did not know this website, it seems to me that de site has a clean interface and easy to use at first sight. The site has a menu on the left side of the page, there we can find ten possible options to start browsing on the site. The first thing that struck me was the side menu "Talking Sports" because I'm a big fan of all sports especially of soccer, basketball and tennis. In the section "Talking Sports" we can find different videos which appear many athletes talking about their work. Natalie is the host of the space, she proposes to us that we pay attention to a few words of the interview and then she shows us where were said. For me it is very entertaining and motivating learning different things, not just English, so more playful, I think anyone can understand things better in this way. Another interesting section within the site is "Beat the keeper" which is under "Quizzes", here you have to make a goal by choosing the correct answer to the question proposed, this activity has a time limit to complete it and at the end of the activity appears your score. This two activities are very funny.

My Career

Hi English classmates, today i’m going to write about my university career, it is graphic design. When I was a child I dreamed of being a professional footballer and play in the best leagues in the world, also for many years I played tennis and I wanted to dedicate myself to play tennis, but various injuries caused me to stop dreaming to be an elite athlete. When I was in middle school I wanted to study civil engineering, architecture, political science, law and advertising, but ultimately I chose to study graphic design, although I hesitated between graphic design and industrial design.  I think I made the right decision not to study advertising, I made my decision to study graphic design after talking to a friend of my uncle who is an advertiser. He told me that what makes a publicist any creative person can do. On the other hand, the things that make a designer not everyone can do it. In the future I would like to dedicate myself to the identity and branding, but without ignoring other things that I like such as illustration, typography and animation.

Faith No More

Hi everyone, today I’m going to write about my favorite concert. In the year 2010 the band Faith No More came back to Chile after his concert on November 5 in 2009, that concert was performed the December 5, 2010 in the Bicentenario de la Florida stadium, Santiago of Chile. This is the second time that I can see them live and direct. In the last concert Mike Patton, The front man of the band, said that it was the last concert ever and they never come back to Chile, but they return. I remember that the band Primus was opens the show, they are very cool and his music sounds very good on live, also was the first time I watched Primus but not the only time. That concert was very emotional for the public because between the band and the Chilean public it generates a special mysticism that I can’t explain, you can see this if you read the chronicles from all the visits of Faith No More. For me this concert is very special for three important reasons, the first, because Faith No More is one of my favorites band the in the world, the second, because I thought they never come back to Chile after their break and the third reason because I went with my little brother and my uncle, he gave me the entrance for the show. Here I attach the set list of the concert and a video of the show, enjoy it.

A Beach

Hello English classmates, today I'm going to write about my favorite beach. Without a doubt my favorite beach is Algarrobo, it is a Chilean city and commune in San Antonio’s province, in the region of Valparaiso. Algarrobo is located on the Chilean’s central coast, it is a popular beach for the population of Santiago and also it near El Quisco and Valparaiso. Llong ago time since I've gone to Algarrobo, I think the last time I went was 3 years ago with my family, but for me Algarrobo is the best beach to vacation with the family, is a quiet place, the water is fine and it has some very entertaining video games. When I go to Algarrobo is with my family to spend a little time together, to enjoy the sea and to enjoy the local food. My family and I love to swim in the sea, relax on the beach and playing in the sand. To Algarrobo I go since I have memory, always the holidays were on that beach ever since I was very young. In my memory I keep the best memories of my childhood on that beach in Algarrobo has been the place where I spent more time swimming, the place where I have spent my best vacation and where  I will always return for future holidays.

The Hidden Beach

Hi everyone, today I’m going to write about a photograph that I like so much,  but more important to me, is that the photograph brings me a lot of memories for good times that I spent with my girlfriend and some of my best friends on Mirasol’s beach. This photo dates from the summer of 2009, in a bonfire that we made every night in the same hidden beach, the scenery was very similar to the beach where Jack Sparrow from de Pirates of the Caribbean was abandon by Captain Barbosa. We discovered this hidden beach like a lucky strike to us, because this beach was like a private beach and the only way to get to the beach was down a cliff near this or entering by the owner's property. On those vacations, I and my friends went every night to that beach to make bonfires, chatting and drinking something. I remember the first night we were on that beach we enter a totally dark cave, then when we were going go far into this a group of bats appeared, so we had to escape the cave because the bats could attack us, after what had happened me and my friends laughed all night long.
